President's Report

As we move into late spring, I’d like to highlight one of the most anticipated events of our SEAOSD calendar—the Structural Engineering Excellence Awards coming up June 25th.
This year, we are making a deliberate effort to elevate the experience into a truly special evening for our community. The event will be hosted at an exceptional venue (Scripps Seaside Forum), with thoughtfully curated food and an atmosphere worthy of celebrating the outstanding achievements within our profession. Our goal is to create not just an awards presentation, but a memorable ceremony that reflects the quality and impact of the work our members deliver every day.
We are also honored to welcome distinguished keynote speakers Taal Safdie and Ricardo Rabines of Safdie Rabines Architects (Architect-of-record for the Seaside Forum). Their work exemplifies the powerful collaboration between architecture and structural engineering, and we are excited for the perspective and inspiration they will bring to the evening.
Most importantly, this event is a chance to come together as a community—to recognize excellence, reconnect with colleagues, and show support for the individuals and teams who continue to raise the bar in our region. Your presence helps make this event meaningful. I strongly encourage all members to attend, bring colleagues, and be part of celebrating the best of SEAOSD.
I look forward to seeing many of you there for what promises to be a memorable night.  Please sign up to attend AND sponsor right away before it is sold out!

SEAOSD SLCxYMF Mentorship Closeout Event — Year Closed Out in Style! By Aliana Sonza

The SEAOSD SLCxYMF Closeout Celebration was a massive success and San Diego made sure to send us home happy with a dominant 5-0 victory!

The vibes were high, the crowd was loud, and the night was one for the books. To our mentors and mentees — thank you. This program exists because of your dedication and the impact you have made on one another this year is something truly special. It has been an honor to watch these relationships grow and flourish throughout the year.

To everyone who was a part of the SEAOSD SLCxYMF Mentorship this year — thank you for making it such an incredible one. We could not have done it without you.

Until next year — let's make it even better! 🙌

SEAOSD Seismology Committee, by Naeem Nemati-Raad

The SEAOSD seismology committee met on Tuesday April 28th from 5 to 6:30 pm. We discussed the new BSSC PUC Professional Organization Ballots (P.O. Ballots #7), Spring 2026, which if approved will be implemented in 2028 edition of ASCE 7. We discussed each ballot in the figure below in significant detail, formed our opinion and decided on our final vote. We placed our vote on BSSC website via the committee BSSC liaison.
