SEAOSD June Newsletter
President's Report

As the school year comes to an end, so does our SEAOSD calendar year and my time as president. This week we end the year with a bang, hosting our SEE Awards – Structural Engineer Excellence awards at the downtown San Diego Public Library. For all of those that submitted projects, I am impressed by the amazing projects and talented local engineers making these projects come to life. For the rest of us (myself included), I would ask that you consider submitting next year as a way to show your colleagues all the challenges and successes we face.
As we wrap up the year, I would like to take the time to thank all of the dedicated volunteers on all of our committees and the SEAOSD Board that make our organization run. While there were many things I wished we could have accomplished this year, I am happy with all we did throughout the year. Being an all-volunteer group, sometimes it is challenging to put the time in to make these events happen, but in the end these technical and social happenings bring us together as an engineering community. If you were at events like one of the many YMF events, speed mentoring, golf tournament or Trivia Night, (and so many more) you know what I mean. Volunteers are what make us run, so thank you to all those that participated.
If there is something that we are doing right (or wrong) or if there is something else we should be doing let us know. We are here to serve our members, and without your input we can only make assumptions as to how best to serve our association.
I am looking forward to next year, big changes are coming to SEAOC and here in San Diego. Jermey Callister is taking over the reigns as SEAOSD President, so I know we are in good hands. We start in September with the SEAOC Convention being held here in San Diego at the Lowes Coronado. Having assisted in planning conventions in the past, I am very eager to see what our local convention committee has in store for all of us. I know you won’t want to miss this one. That’s just to get us started, so hopefully we will see you around.
It has been a pleasure to be a part of this organization. I look forward to continuing to participate on committees and seeing all that our organization can accomplish.

Annual Sponsors
Become and annual sponsor
Dear Potential Sponsor/Donor:
The Structural Engineers Association of San Diego (SEAOSD) incorporated as a non-profit corporation on October 2, 1967 and has been serving San Diego Structural Engineers and the community ever since. Our mission is to advance the structural engineering profession through the improvement of the quality of design and construction; to assist the public in obtaining professional structural engineering services; to promote natural hazard mitigation; to provide continuing education and encourage research; to provide Structural Engineers with the most current information and tools to improve their practice; and to maintain the honor and dignity of the profession.
On behalf of SEAOSD, I would like to formally invite you to participate in our advertising and sponsorship program. Attached is our updated Advertising Policy that outlines a wide variety of options to choose from to fit your specific needs. Given our association comprises over 300 members, this is an excellent opportunity to promote and reach out to the local engineering profession. This includes job forum postings, displaying your business card in our Professional Directory, adding your company logo to our website, sponsoring one of our monthly member meetings, or participating in our annual golf tournament each spring. There are also several sponsorship packages you may want to consider that offer discounted rates with a packaged deal.
I would like to emphasize that as a non-profit organization, your continued support is vital for our association to uphold our mission and advance the structural engineering profession. This includes the ongoing work of our local and state committees ranging from structural standards development, sustainable design, public relations, advising local government, and business forum activities. SEAOSD has also been heavily involved with student organizations, including job shadowing programs, awarding student scholarships, as well as hosting an annual “Student Night” that provides a unique opportunity for local college students to meet design professionals and learn more about the structural engineering profession.
If you would like to take advantage and benefit from these opportunities while also helping to strengthen our association, please contact our Executive Director, Heather Caya, at (619) 733-2734 or [email protected].
Thank you again in advance for your support of our association.
Sincerely,
Steve Kerr, S.E.
