Student Night Sponsors

SEAOSD’s annual Student Night dinner meeting is coming up and I’m here to ask for your help in sponsoring the event.

Student Night will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at the Stone Brewery Liberty Station. As you know, this is our biggest event of the year where we invite students from both UCSD and SDSU to join us free-of-charge, which means we need your support to help make the event a success. It’s a great opportunity for the graduating students to meet representatives from local firms and get a better idea of what we do in practice. It’s also an excellent opportunity for firms to gain exposure and meet the next generation of engineers.

Please confirm if I can count on your firm’s support this year, and anticipated dollar amount.  Typical sponsorship amounts have been between $200 and $500.  With sponsorship, your firm’s name/logo will be included, along with our other sponsors, on a display board at the event. The $500 sponsors are also able to setup a table with handout info. We need to know all sponsors by February 1 to have your logo included on the display board, so please let us know as soon as possible.

Here are the following items we will need:

  • Amount of sponsorship
  • Checks made out to “SEAOSD” and sent to:

PO Box 712922, Santee, CA 92072

Sign up directly online at our website just click here

Under sponsorship will be a list of different sponsorships from you to choose from.

  • We’ll need your company logo to be emailed to [email protected] in jpeg to put on a display board for sponsor recognition no later than February 1, 2019.

Thanks and see you at Student Night!

Sustainable Design – What I Can Do

An introduction and summary of sustainable design strategies that every structural engineer can readily implement (at a minimum) as well as highlighting emerging technologies in the field including resilient design strategies, life cycle assessment (LCA) to quantify and reduce carbon impacts of buildings, and new timber systems available as  alternatives to traditional construction. This compilation of the latest in sustainable structural design is being presented by the Structural Engineers Association of California’s (SEAOC) Sustainable Design Committee (SDC).  A brief of the current SDC Concrete Embodied Carbon project is also discussed.

The time is now for structural engineers to make an impact on the industry as we now have the tools and a clientele eager to consider our contributions to sustainability and to a more resilient built environment.

James R. Conley is a Principal Structural Engineer with Coffman Engineers (previously Hope-Amundson). In his eighteen years, his specialties have evolved to include high-tech/biotech concrete structures, parking structures, educational facilities and mixed-use / residential / hospitality sectors.  He has managed numerous Sustainable Design Award winning projects in his tenure.  An active Member SE in SEAOSD, Jim currently serves as Chair of the Sustainable Design Committee, and always looking for new members to join in on the fun.
